Lucas Mahias took a stunning victory for the Pata Yamaha Official STK1000 Team at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli this afternoon having never raced at the track, with the team or on the YZF-R1M in STK1000-spec until Friday morning. Morrentino claimed 20th in his debut race.
Strong off the lights Mahias was immediately in the hunt for the podium as he circulated in fourth. Developing his pace as the contest progressed he took third place on lap eight, determinedly defending his position for the next six. With the podium celebrations beckoning his pace improved again, and with the chequered flag in sight the leaders came together at Turn 13 promoting Mahias to a spectacular finish on his debut race and a visit to the top step as his reward – for the second time in as many weeks.
Morrentino began his first race with the Pata Yamaha YZF-R1M strongly, but an on-track incident knocked his position, his momentum suffering as he attempted to regroup. Regaining five positions by lap four he circulated in 18th for the mid-race distance before losing time in the final laps, finishing in 20th at the line.
The FIM Superstock 1000 Cup now enters a long summer break, with the Pata Yamaha Official STK1000 Team returning to competition at the EuroSpeedway Lausitzring, in Germany on Sunday 18th September.
